Inner Healing and Deliverance Heals Depression


If you’ve ever struggled with depression you are not alone!

One of the happiest men in the world, Robin Williams, suffered with depression and no one knew. Robin took his own life because nobody knew about his condition, he disguise it. That is what we do, we disguise what is going bad in our lives and sometimes hide our emotions from our friends and family. Millions of people struggle with depression, anxiety and sadness with no real hope besides what the world has to offer us. It’s a very real condition and the bible has many examples of it.


Depression was real in biblical times and many of the most well known people in the bible experienced it. Moses (Numbers 11:10-15), David (Psalm 69), John the Baptist and even the most prolific writer of the bible, Paul (Philippians 2:26-28). It was perhaps as much a common disorder as it is today and causes of and reasons for it are not dissimilar to those of today. It was and still is part of the human condition and Christians as well as non-Christians all over the world struggle with it.


The world has several secular methods to offer temporary help for depression such as medication, talking about it with a psychiatrist or western healing practices. The church offers us to talk about it with a Christian psychiatrist, counseling with a Pastor, healing ministries like Sozo and of course reading the Bible, praying and listening to Christian music. All of these are helpful however without getting to the root of your depression you end up only putting a band-aid on it. Only Inner Healing and Deliverance can Heal Depression at its root through the healing power of Jesus.


My depression use to take a hold of me and some days render me paralyzed. I struggled to function like a human. I found myself lying in bed, not eating or doing anything. This would send me spiraling with more elevated emotions (such as fear, anxiety, anger, rejection, abandonment, despair, worry, panic, stress, terror, sadness, loneliness, embarrassment, humiliation, worthlessness, unworthiness, devastation and jealousy) and more into my depression and it usually took a friend or something to snap me out of it and to move on … at least for a little while.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)


Depression comes in many forms, as it did with one of my writers who was suffering from depression. His son attempted suicide a year ago due to the embedded trauma of his parents divorce. They didn’t realize that the divorce and his son’s actions would cause his own depression. He said "I never saw depression coming, I hid it and even denied it, but I was depressed. Sometimes I would slip into a coma like state of consciousness, awake and sort of busy but not functioning on all cylinders. On other occasions I would not eat, would not leave the house for days and have my own pity party. It was and is a terrible thing and when at its worse it digs its own hole deeper and deeper". Inner healing is just one of the many reasons why Christ died on the cross (Ephesians 1:7). God wants to heal our deepest hurts and that's where inner healing comes in.


The Bible has made it very clear that depression has a spirit of heaviness associated with it (Isaiah 61:3) and the roots of depression are caused by trauma or abuse from sometime in our past. The trauma can be from any age and is usually associated with accidents, physical abuse, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, physical pain, or any emotional pain that we can’t handle or cope with at that moment. Believe it or not your depression may be caused by a traumatic moment from your childhood combined with newer soul wounds from a friend, family member or an enemy. These soul wounds don’t have time limits on them and can be triggered easily anytime by people not meaning to trigger or hurt you.


The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 (NIV)


The way we deal with this trauma is to disassociate. We disassociate by not remembering our past hurts, past hurts caused at any age by friends, family and enemies. Since those past hurts (soul wounds) haven’t been healed by Jesus they open the doorway which gives the enemy a legal right to torment us (Matthew 18:23-35). The enemy torments us through these past soul wounds and it can affect us in our bodies (sickness, pain, undiagnosed medical conditions), our soul and in our minds (with feelings of hopelessness that bring with it elevated emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, rejection, abandonment or despair).

Inner healing is part of Christ's redemptive work on Calvary (Ephesians 1:7) and it has been given to us (Romans 3:22) freely. Through prayer and knowledge of the Word of God our savior Jesus mediates (1 Timothy 2:5) and intercedes on our behalf to the Heavenly Father (Romans 3:24) to heal the deepest wounds to our souls. Inner healing gets to the deepest root of the pain from the trauma and gets it healed permanently.


He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 (NIV)

By performing self-inner healing on yourself you will begin to recognize key emotions that have held you captive in the past and have given the enemy a legal right to torment your mind, body and soul. You will learn to come before the Lord and take authority of past and future soul wounds and not only be healed from them but be set free from them as well, permanently.


After I went through inner healing I was taught on how to do self-inner healing. This is where I begin to recognize when the enemy would attack me rather than just accepting being depressed and down. When I felt down or depressed the Holy Spirit would reveal to me what the triggered emotion associated with me feeling down and I would take care of the issue that moment and have Jesus come heal the wound. Inner healing is made possible because Jesus heals the root of depression and His strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9) and through Christ all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).


Now, when I start to feel the onset of any attack to my mind, body or soul, I am able to deal with it and take care of it right away. Now, I know in today’s world, that’s not always an option with the busyness of life. When I don’t have the time to take care of the issue in the moment, I’ll write it down and save it for later when I have the time to spare. The moment I have alone time I get right on it and have Jesus come and heal those wounds. Once you know your authority in Christ you will be armed that much more to deflect those attacks, you can then start your self inner healing.


The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; Luke 4:18 (NKJV)


Inner Healing is one of the most vital and important areas of deliverance ministry that we cannot overlook. While it is important to cast out demons, it is just as important, if not more important, to minister to the emotional wounds. Emotional wounds are one of the most common reasons that deliverance's can fail or demons seem to keep coming back and regaining in-habitation within the person.

Inner healing and Deliverance not only can heal your from Depression it gets to the root of the dissociative, wounded parts of the soul and getting them healed, permanently.
